Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: The Beast Behind the 11 Pro

A few weeks ago, Qualcomm dropped a bombshell on the industry with the release of its latest processing chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Hoisted as the fastest mobile CPU in the world, the chipset was promised to usher in record-breaking speeds and unmatched efficiency. Fortunately, our REDMAGIC 11 Pro was one of the first gaming smartphones to ever be fitted with this legendary powerhouse.

We’ll be using this blog article to look further into the genius behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and how it has performed in tandem with the 11 Pro to deliver exceptional results across the board. First, let’s get a better understanding of what the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 achieves when housed in our latest REDMAGIC flagship gaming smartphone.

Putting the Pro in Processing

Now, we’ve already discussed the main specific factions and highlights of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in detail. Many of these features boil down to state-of-the-art performance, efficiency, and on-device AI processing to amplify mainstay experiences and debut breakthrough experiences. By itself, the chipset is already a loaded weapon built to enthrall. However, as always, at REDMAGIC, we always take things to the next level.

Using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the 3rd gen Oryon™ CPU in the 11 Pro features 2 high-performance cores and 6 efficiency cores with a clock speed of up to 4.6 GHz that are built on a 3nm Pro process and paired with the Adreno™ GPU for exceptional graphics and smooth gameplay. Armed with LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.1 Pro storage, the 11 Pro also ensures rapid multitasking, quicker loading times, smoother gameplay, and 36% faster read speeds.

The 11 Pro also sports our very own upgraded RedCore R4 chip. This new dedicated REDMAGIC gaming chip is designed to elevate performance and cooling by delivering Qualcomm-driven 2K super-resolution for smoother visuals, powering customizable in-game effects, and using intelligent power management to extend battery life while keeping the device cool during intense sessions.

Our new Energy Cube 3.0 system also uses REDMAGIC’s proprietary hardware–software optimization to dynamically allocate CPU, GPU, memory, cooling, and touch resources in real time accordingly. This provides improved FPS stability and faster responsiveness with less power consumption and heat.

This setup ensures up to 12% lower power consumption, a 40% performance boost, smoother frame rates in complex scenes, and enhanced multitasking. Overall, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the 11 Pro promises a 20% CPU performance boost with 35% improved CPU power efficiency, along with another 30% GPU performance boost and 20% better GPU power efficiency.

The Proof is in the Performance

Now, these specs and numbers might seem flashy and fabulous for anyone simply reading them out; however, we always put our manufacturing where our mouth is to ensure that our devices live up to the hype in real life as well as on paper. Let’s see how well the world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip did with reviewers.

When testing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in our 11 Pro, Robert Triggs from Android Authority was left impressed that the phone performed within just a few percentage points of Qualcomm’s best-case reference model from its launch event. While testing the device, Triggs noted that performance improved when gaming mode was disabled; however, turning it back on enhanced cooling and power efficiency. As a result, he disabled gaming mode throughout the testing period.

During a GeekBench 6 test, Triggs saw the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 blow past the competition seamlessly, leaving Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro, the vivo X300 Pro, and our very own REDMAGIC 10 Pro promptly in the dust.

When compared to the 10 Pro, which sports the original Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Gen 5 inside the 11 Pro gained 15% in single-core CPU performance and a 14% boost in multi-core scores. The chip’s custom CPU cores also stayed ahead of the new Arm C1-Ultra inside MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, while the CPU benchmark proved that the 11 Pro is 7.5% faster in single-core and 14.7% faster in multi-core tests than the vivo X300 Pro.

Triggs rounded off the review by stating that the major gaming benefits of the 11 Pro would be more likely seen in consistent performance over longer play sessions, which would be more advantageous for today’s higher-end titles. In a later article, Triggs voiced some concerns about how other smartphones were handling the processing power of the 8 Elite Gen 5, especially when it came to heat.

He stated that the chipset could reach high temperatures in graphics stress tests to maintain peak performance over time, and that the 11 Pro could manage this due to its elaborate AquaCore liquid cooling system and fan setup. He went on to say that the 11 Pro “throws caution to the wind to deliver maximum performance and stability,” and that if you want to see the best of what the 8 Elite Gen 5 has to offer, the 11 Pro is probably the best way to do it.

For Tech Spurt, the “beefy” performance of the 11 Pro was one of the main highlights of the device, stating that Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact, Call of Duty Mobile and several other favorites all run flawlessly with maxed out settings. He concluded that if you want something that can play the latest, most intensive and demanding titles, probably for years and years to come, the 11 Pro will easily get the job done.

Over at GSM Arena, the 11 Pro was also put through the ringer in benchmark tests where it easily outperformed competitors running on the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. The review stated that REDMAGIC phones have historically been one of the best performers in their benchmark tests, and that not only does the 11 Pro utilize the chipset's full potential, but it also remains a chart-topper, comfortably outpacing older devices with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, including our 10 Pro.

The 11 Pro’s GPU stress test also returned excellent results, achieving high GPU clock speeds from the very beginning, but also maintaining them throughout the test, scoring 75% stability in Wild Life Extreme Stress Test from 3DMark. In terms of gaming, GSM Arena also tested the 11 Pro in Delta Force, which uses Unreal Engine 5, and PUBG Mobile using the highest possible graphics settings. Here, the phone achieved a comfortable 60 and 90fps, respectively, while in Rise mode.

According to Tabitha Baker from Games Radar+, the 11 Pro is essentially “the king of the castle” right now, sporting cutting-edge tech to offer up some of the best benchmark scores seen in a gaming phone to date. In Baker’s review of the powerhouse, they assure readers that we’re definitely putting the Snapdragon chipset to work, and that the 11 Pro effortlessly topped the benchmark tests thrown at it with “eye-watering 3D Mark scores stretching across Wild Life Extreme, Solar Bay, and Steel Nomad.”

Baker also commented that the 8,000 Wild Life Extreme score put last year's 10S Pro on the back foot and kept the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro out of commission as well. Similarly, the Solar Bay results showed performance gains of 14.3% between the two most recent REDMAGIC models. This translates to “a seamless experience in everything,” tested with the 11 Pro.

In terms of gaming, intensive games like Genshin Impact kept steady framerates even with busy screens, while the “heaviest board states weren't even enough to make the 11 Pro stutter in MTG Arena.” Baker went on to state that Google Play Store blockbusters and emulation classics also run incredibly well here, while the touch capacitive triggers keep the thumbs free in shooter games for a super-responsive and impressively intuitive control scheme that you won't find on more mainstream devices.

For Retro Tech Dad, the 11 Pro performed seamlessly in gaming. He noted that essentially everything available natively on Android won't have too much trouble running on the 11 Pro. He also stated that emulation remains the best way to show off the extra oomph that comes with a new chipset like the 8 Elite Gen 5. With the 11 Pro, he found that emulation was a breeze and that even sixth-generation consoles and earlier emulators would run seamlessly.

The 11 Pro also performed perfectly when tested with PC emulation, effortlessly running the Final Fantasy 7 remake, Crew 2, and God of War using Gamehub. He concluded that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is an excellent performer and that the combination of the 11 Pro’s gaming-focused features, like the impressive vapor chamber, really makes for “an excellent gaming experience that can handle pretty much everything that the world of Android can offer, including some pretty heavy emulation and PC gaming.”
